According to the Associated Press on the 9th (local time), armed forces broke into a dormitory school in Bakuso, Socotto, northwest Nigeria at 1 a.m. and kidnapped 15 sleeping children, local police said.

The attack is the third mass kidnapping in northern Nigeria this month alone.

On the 7th, at least 287 children from public schools in Kaduna State were taken by militants and went missing. Last week, more than 200 women and children were kidnapped in Borno State.

Military and police forces have been deployed to the area and are trying to rescue them, but they are having difficulty accessing them.

The forces behind the kidnapping have yet to emerge.

However, nomadic armed groups are known to have carried out attacks and kidnappings for ransom in the northern part of the country due to decades of conflict with farmers' tribes.

In Nigeria, kidnapping cases for ransom are frequent as the security vacuum grows due to ethnic and religious conflicts and armed conflicts. It is mainly targeted by women, children, and students, and it is released only after paying a huge ransom.

9일(현지시간) AP통신에 따르면 이날 오전 1시께 나이지리아 북서부 소코토주 바쿠소 마을 기숙사 학교에 무장 세력이 침입해 자고 있던 어린이 15명을 납치했다고 현지 경찰이 밝혔다.

이번 공격은 나이지리아 북부에서 이번 달에만 세번째 발생한 대규모 납치 사건이다.

지난 7일에도 카두나주 공립학교 어린이 최소 287명이 무장세력에 끌려가 실종됐다. 지난주에도 보르노주에서 여성과 어린이 200여명이 납치됐다.

군경이 현지에 투입돼 구출을 시도 중이지만 접근에 어려움을 겪고 있다.

납치 배후를 자처한 세력은 아직 나타나지 않았다.

다만 유목민 위주인 무장 단체들은 수십년간 지속된 농민 부족과의 갈등으로 북부 지역에서 몸값을 노린 공격과 납치를 저질러온 것으로 알려졌다.

나이지리아에서는 민족·종교 갈등과 무력 충돌로 치안 공백이 커지면서 몸값을 노린 납치 사건이 빈번하다. 주로 여성과 어린이, 학생이 표적으로, 막대한 몸값을 치러야 풀려난다.
