An Age in Need of Caleb’s Faith

Joshua 14:6~15 I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming. So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.” (11~12)

The Israelites overcame many obstacles and finally entered the land of Canaan. However, they faced another crisis which was the hill country of the Anakites. That was when Caleb appeared before Joshua and asked for the hill country that God had spoken of. Caleb conquered the hill country of the Anakites and wars ceased on that land. What kind of person was Caleb?

1. A Person of the Covenant
Caleb was a person of the covenant. This was why he followed the covenant instead of making his own statements. Caleb, together with Joshua, experienced the Exodus while serving Moses and experienced God’s works in the Red Sea and the wilderness. Also, Caleb was the person who was with God in all circumstances. Because Caleb held onto the sure covenant, he knew he would be victorious and correctly saw the fulfillment of God’s Words.

2. A Person Who Possesses Spiritual Eyes
Caleb who possessed spiritual eyes was someone who enjoyed God’s presence with the Israelites(Immanuel). Before the Israelites entered Canaan, they sent twelve spies to Kadesh Barnea. Even though ten spies spoke words of unbelief, Caleb confessed that Canaan was the land God had prepared. Caleb also confessed that he would serve Joshua as he had served Moses.

3. A Person of Power
Caleb was a man of power who believed in God’s powers. Caleb learned faith during the age of Moses, learned to yield in the age of Joshua, and showed devotion in the age of crisis. Caleb fulfilled oneness by devoting himself to God’s work without revealing himself.

[Prayer of the Evangelist] Dear God, make me into a person of the covenant who possesses spiritual eyes and a person of power who believes in Your strength. Let me be a person who can save the hill country given to me.

[Gospel Memory Verse] 2 Timothy 3:16~17
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
