The Six States of Unbelievers 3: The Mental Illness (Matthew 11:28)

-Many people in the developed countries suffer from mental disorders like hallucinations, spiritual oppression, hearing strange voices, nervousness, insomnia, depression, neurosis, panic attack, and so on. Many actors/actresses, singers, comedians, and leaders of the society naturally confess their mental illness. In spite of their success, money, fame, career, and power, many have been afflicted spiritually and mentally.

-The mental problem comes close to us. People around us have mental disorders and deep discouragement. In order to save and heal them, we should know the start of the mental illness and its true solution.

1.The start and process of the mental illness

1)The root of the mental disorder

-When God created human beings in His own image, their mental state was good (Gen.1:27-31).

Genesis 1:31  Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

-However, by the temptation of Satan, Adam and Eve disobeyed and disbelieved God’s Word and became separated from holy God because of their sin. From that moment, Satan has controlled and reigned over human beings. All problems including the mental disorder started after the Fall.

Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

2)The channel of the mental illness

-Basically, human beings, who are separated from God, have no true peace, rest, and happiness in their lives. Therefore, they have no choice but to suffer mentally in this world.

Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

-There are channels through which the mental disorder places in our mind and thoughts. These are severe incidents, scars, experience, conflicts, environments, and hardships. Especially, Satan uses these in order to possess someone. Therefore, we must not give the opportunity to Satan.

Ephesians 4:27 nor give place to the devil.

3)What do you imprint?

-The cause and reason of the development of the mental illness is imprint. People who have mental disorders are caught up by their problems. Therefore, they always meditate upon their difficulties and imprint them continuously in their mind and thought.

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

-Check up what you imprint daily.

2.Healing of the mental problems

1)Admit Jesus Christ as your master
-In order to receive healing for the mental illness, you believe in Jesus Christ and admit that He is your Lord, Master, and Savior in your life. He is the only one way to meet God (John 14:6). He is the only true Priest to forgive our sin (Rom.8:1-2). He is the only true King to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8).

1 Corinthians 8:5-6 For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords), yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.

-Without salvation, there is no true healing for the mental disorders.

2)Receive the guidance of Jesus and to entrust all things to Him
-To admit Jesus Christ as your Lord means to follow His guidance in our lives and to entrust all things to Him. The Word of God is the best way to receive God’s guidance in our lives. Then, you will have true rest and peace.

Matthew 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

-Because you are under the guidance and protection of Jesus Christ, there are no worry and anxiety in our lives.

3)Believe that God takes care of you if you entrust all things to Him

-God is your spiritual Father. He knows your everything. He is the Creator and Almighty One. If you believe in Him and hand over your problems to Him, God works in your life.

1 Peter 5:7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

-If you entrust to all things to God, He bears your difficulties.

Psalm 68:19(NIV) Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.

4)Give thanksgiving with prayer to God

-First, you start to give thanksgiving to God because of your salvation. If you have real thanksgiving for salvation, you can overcome your difficulties. Further, you should pray for all things to God with thanksgiving. Until you pray with thanksgiving, pray to God continuously.

Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

5)Meditate on the Word of God

-God’s Word is living and powerful to heal our whole beings. Therefore, to meditate upon the Word of God is the best time to heal our wounded mind and thoughts.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

-Have the best time to meditate upon the Word of God every single day!

Conclusion

1)Have faith for God’s sovereignty

-King David always acknowledged that God is his King and Lord.

Psalm 5:2 Give heed to the voice of my cry,  My King and my God, For to You I will pray.

-Whether you succeed or not, you should always admit that God is your King, Lord, and Master. You believe that God has sovereignty over all.

1 Chronicles 29:11-12 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, The power and the glory, The victory and the majesty; For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, And You are exalted as head over all. 12Both riches and honor come from You, And You reign over all. In Your hand is power and might; In Your hand it is to make great And to give strength to all.
