Lay out a 100 year plan – part II  The Biblical Strategy that the Remnants must know

What is Darakbang?

Original work by Rev. Kwang Su Ryu,

A story from Jin Hae High School

So many times, I would hesitate and feel embarrassed every time Hui Sung would ask me to go. But one day, I followed Hui Sung as if I was being led by some other force. It may have had something to do with the loyalty between “men,” but it was really because of another greater power. He would take me to a forty-minute long meeting where they’d pass out a sheet of paper and would say the same stuff over and over, “Jesus is the Christ, the answer to all of our problems.” But I found myself mesmerized by how much strength I would receive from these meetings. More friends accepted Jesus as time passed. This was how Darakbang started at Jin Hae High School. This is where my teenage years began. I lose track of how much time has passed. I was someone who didn’t know how to find anything in the Bible or know how to sing any of the hymns, but on one spring day, I was praising, “One day, it came to me that Jesus is the Christ of God...” I would read the Gospel Letter one ‘meeting’ at a time, pray for the friends I wanted to evangelize to, share prayer topics, and pour my heart out to God. It’s still vivid in my mind when my friend Chun Seok said to me, “How do you get such good grades?” He looked at me with a bit of envy and curiosity at the same time, so breaking the awkward silence, I testified of Jesus Christ, and Chun Seok accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Chun Seok who had been suffering from migraines became completely cured the day that he accepted Christ. There were friends who were considered to be “loser” friends who were having trouble with smoking or trouble with girls. But the Gospel spread surely but quietly to one classmate and then to another classmate, and our Darakbang meeting grew each day. After my high school graduation and my entrance to college, my heart was in constant anticipation every time I would head back from Busan to Jin Hae. One day, Chun Seok’s brother Su Cheon was raised as a group leader and began leading a Saturday Darakbang. Seung Hwa, whom we met the week before, was truly a committed worker. A friend named Sung Joon, who was suffering from depression, found the solution of his lifetime. We were all thankful as we saw him receiving healing. After about three years, I walked to the sports grounds filled with smoke and saw a bunch of noisy guys playing ball. I said in my heart, “The reason you exist is because of me!” I bought some drinks and snacks and was led by the commission of the evangelist to share the Gospel. That day, like any other day, a disciple was prepared in the field. Even at this moment, knowing that this meeting is continuing with Remnants that I may not know is the true happiness of my life.

Remnants who can experience the value of Darakbang are the true watchmen of the 21st century. What happened in Mark’s upper room (Darakbang) after Jesus ascended into Heaven? The Remnants of the Early Church let the Gospel take root in themselves while in their fields. And whether they were gathered or scattered, they continued to testify that Jesus is the Christ, that He has risen, that He works in us through the Holy Spirit, and that He will return. After Acts 2, when the Holy Spirit was at work according to God’s time schedule, His Word was fulfilled. Prepared disciples would arise from the field and change the culture. And through unity they would receive the blessed answers of missions. A small group of people, who were nothing to the world, gathered in Mark’s upper room. These Remnants saw the fulfillment of God’s covenant through the revival of Antioch, Macedonia, and Rome. Darakbang is the most biblical and Gospel-oriented evangelism movement, which is focused on saving the field. How can a Remnant start Darakbang in their home or school? It’s good to have Darakbang alone, but all you need to do is to start a prayer meeting by making a five-member group with the fellow workers of faith by choosing a time and place. Your teachers at church or your pastor can be the ‘minister’ who will proclaim the Word. What’s more important is that you yourself will play the role of the ‘group leader’ managing the group and at the same time praying for the people to whom you would like to evangelize. A group leader can also play the role of a minister, but the group leader must be a Remnant who is rooted in that field and rooted in the Gospel. The purpose of Darakbang is to continually raise “disciples of Christ” from your field because there are always disciples who are prepared in the field.

When I first accepted Jesus, Hui Sung helped me find the verses in the Bible and taught me how to use a hymnal. We call friends, who help with personal nurturing, E.B.S. (Evangelism Bible Study) workers. Around Christmastime, we took our talents and skills and displayed them through praise and a play. Opening an evangelism door separately for this purpose is called ‘Technical (Skills) Darakbang,’ and G.B.S. (Group Bible Study) workers can join in. Darakbang is a temporary bridge between the church and the field. It is the place where we can experience God’s presence through the Word and prayer. Darakbang is very basic and yet it is the basis for everything in the biblical evangelism movement, which if you wanted to, you can even start today.  I hope all of you, who are the “eighth Remnant,” would draw the blueprint for the salvation of your families and your schools. You can start with a “personal Darakbang” by using the pulpit message and the Remnant Journal. It is very important that you enjoy the mystery of Immanuel and not lose hold of the covenant message. If you write the names of people whom you would like to evangelize to and bind the forces of darkness for them in the Remnant Journal, the Remnant history book, doors for evangelism will absolutely open. I pray that each of you will get a taste of the Gospel through Darakbang, that you would enjoy the greatness of being a child of God through Darakbang, and that you would become the main figures of Darakbang as the watchmen who will save the culture through unity.
