1st Level Camp Training

Original Author: Rev. Kwang Su Ryu Written by: Assistant Pastor Kyung Do Park (Kwang Ju Dae Church)

The author received the certification for 1st Level Camp Training on February 6, 1997 during the 115th training.

First Day It was the Lunar New Year and the cold weather had yet to pass. The 1st Level Camp Training that I had been eagerly awaiting was finally upon me. After the Sunday afternoon worship, I got on the next bus headed for Busan. I took the subway and transferred to bus number 70 and arrived just in time to give the fourth service worship at Dong Sam Jeil Church (presently Immanuel Church). I tried to calm my excitement and confirmed my registration at the training center, then proceeded to eat dinner. It was the middle of winter and the main sanctuary had the A/C rather than the heater on. There were so many people, but the one privilege that we had for receiving 1st Level Camp Training was that we had our own seats set aside for the Core Training Message. After the Core Meeting was over, all the people receiving training stayed behind to receive Orientation. Second Day The reason why I woke up so early in the morning was because I did not have a particularly restful sleep due to the snoring of the deacon who slept next to me. My entire body felt clammy and I was drenched with sweat because of a high fever. If I reflect back on it, I remember always getting sick before any important training, and without exception, during this one, I had a large boil on my rear. With lectures, meals, testimonies, and more lectures... I did not even have a moment’s rest. Satan’s thorn on the right side of my rear grew more aggravated as time passed and it kept me shifting in my seat. The deacon who was in the same room as me was filled with so much grumbling that he was always the first to complain. He incessantly asked questions and directed them at the room leader who always responded with a smile and courteously told him that he would answer all his questions after he had received his training. Third Day My physical discomfort and the deacon could have caused me to fall into a trial, but instead, they forced me to pray and led me to concentrate even more on the message. “Jesus Christ is the answer to all problems,” “Jesus life, Jesus power,” “Evangelism that takes place naturally, prayer, and field,” “Solution to the spiritual problem and the fundamental problem” - with the clear proclamation of the Gospel moment by moment, I could read in the eyes of all who were gathered around me that the forces of darkness working through unbelief was crumbling. The testimony of God’s works without embellishments and adjustments, the content of the evangelism video from the beginning of this movement, and the conversations with my room leader were all engraved deeply within my heart. Fourth Day I’ve never been more amazed. The number of training participants were double that of the number of people who usually gather for the Darakbang in the home of a deacon whose nickname was “Hallelujah Lady.” The messenger shared the message relying only upon God. She stood humbly before all the people and boldly declared the testimony that Jesus is the Christ through the answers she had received in the field. Afterwards, we went out to Hae-Yang University for field evangelism and we went to every single house in the small neighborhood in the outskirts of the college. We were driven by correct motives, rather than the impure motive of simply trying to get one more person to accept - what kind of works would have taken place? You may be curious but I will leave this to the imagination of the reader. Last Day I was both shocked and thankful. On the previous night, the great change and confession of the deacon who had been filled solely with complaints left the entire room in tears and we gave our thanksgiving to God through our praises. He had failed completely in his business ventures and through discord in his family, he was on the verge of getting a divorce; in this situation, the last request his parents had made to him was that he receive 1st Level Camp Training. As he was buying an armload of books and training manuals at the church bookstore, he looked to me and entreated me to become a pastor who truly evangelizes, and I will never forget his last words to me - “Jesus is the Christ, the answer to all problems” and me, responding loudly with “Amen”.

‘1st Level Camp Training’: Enjoying the Biblical Evangelism of the Early Church of Mark’s Upper Room in the Field.

Darakbang evangelism entails the Life movement in the field that began from the Early Church of Mark’s Upper Room and conquered all of Rome. The ‘1st Level Camp Training’ is the training (message, messenger, strategy, and system) of coming to the conclusion of the Gospel in the field of my region and being rooted in the Gospel in order to have continuation. The significance of this training (Mt. 1:21~23) lies in the enjoyment of Immanuel by which we can experience the works of the name of Jesus Christ and the spiritual mysteries in the field. The purpose for which Jesus called His disciples (Mk. 3:13~15) and the understanding of our own commission and calling (Gospel, evangelism, authority) is the principle behind the 1st Level Camp Training. This training leads us to continuously confirm the answer to the four problems that the witnesses of the Early Church faced (Mt. 28:18~19): personal problems, problems regarding ministry, field problems, and the matter of receiving healing of our nature in our own respective fields. This training helps us to reenact the history of the entire Book of Acts through the working and guidance of the Holy Spirit, especially in Mark’s Upper Room, in our own fields of today; this training is life reformation through being continuously trained within God’s time schedule. The natural result of 1st Level Camp Training is the explosive works of the Life movement and Word movement in my field, so that disciples who have come to the conclusion of the Gospel like myself can continue to arise; this is not only the inevitable result of training, it is also the evidence that was given in the Bible.

The History of ‘1st Level Camp Training’ and the Future Answers that Remnants Must Discover and Enjoy

In 1991 with the establishment of the Darakbang Evangelism Training Center in Immanuel Church (then Dong Sam Jeil Church), the 1st Level Camp Training was initiated with a schedule of five nights and six days.“From September 7, 1999 to the 12th, side-stepping the mass migration of the entire population due to the Korean Thanksgiving holiday, the first camp training for committed workers and ministers took place at TaeJongDae Resort Hotel.”1 There are four large directions of camp training, the first of which is the message, the second of which is the testimony of witnesses and participation in an actual field Darakbang, the third of which is field evangelism, and the fourth is the workshop. Although it had stopped for a while after February 1996, training in the metropolitan area was continued again in April 1999 (258th training) on a monthly basis. After a series of complications, 1st Level Camp Training was first offered overseas in Tokyo, Japan in December 1998, then in Sydney, Australia in July of the next year, followed by Taichung, Taiwan. This was then expanded to the fields of the world, including the U.S. (Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles); Almaata, Central Asia; Russia; Malaysia; Canada; and Kenya, Africa; raising committed workers who are natives of these countries. In addition, in February 1999, the camp training for those going into military service began in Busan. During school vacations, age-specific camp training groups were initiated. 7,000 students have taken part in Elementary Camp Training (from July 31, 1996 when it first began, up until February 2006), and approximately 3,000 students have received the certification for Junior and Senior High Camp Training, which began in January 15, 1995, up until February 2006. I marvel as I look back on the group picture that I received along with my certificate. I am now able to recognize the familiar faces of my camp training colleagues and I realize now that they are people who are known for their heart for the Gospel. I’m able to see that training was an instrument that God used to mold me into the person I have become. May all of you as the Remnants also meditate in thanksgiving upon the time schedule to receive true training within the entire scheme of your life. 1 Presently, 1st Level Camp Training is scheduled over four nights and five days and takes place twice every month, once in Busan and once in Ansan. Specific information regarding this training can be found in the World Evangelization Newspaper or online at http://www.wedarak.net. Up until May 2006, there have been 464 1st Level Camp Trainings with approximately 44,000 people who have received this certification.
