March 28 Tues.
The Stone That Was Rejected by the Builders
Matthew 21:33-46 / Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: " 'The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? (42)
Hymn #598 Temples God (Unified Hymn 244)
If a foundation isn't sturdy, everything will shake and eventually collapse. Jesus said that the stone the builders rejected would become the capstone. You must properly lay the capstone that strengthens the foundation of your life. For unbelievers, the capstone of their lives is visiting demon-possessed people who tell fortunes and do exorcisms. In regards to church members who also have incorrect capstones, they speak the wrong Gospel. As a result, unbelievers can't receive any help. Because true believers are those who have placed Christ, who is the Rock, as the foundation of their lives, they have no choice but to continually receive answers. But first, there's something that must be surely confirmed.
1. David Who Held onto This Covenant (Psalm 118:1~22)
In Matthew 21:42, Jesus directly quoted King David's words. "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone." (Psalm 118:22) The reason why David never collapsed was because he laid the foundation of his life on Christ who was the Rock. Like David, for those who truly know God, He will rescue them from any crisis.
2. Jesus' Parable of the Tenants (Matthew 21:31~42)
A landowner sent a servant and later, his own son, to collect fruit from the farmers who had been entrusted with his vineyard; however, those evil farmers killed the servant and the son. In the end, the landowner brought them to a wretched end then gave the vineyard to other farmers. The Jewish people killed a prophet who had preached the Word of salvation, turned a group that was doing the Gospel movement into a heresy, and opposed Jesus who came as the Christ. To these Jewish people, Jesus said, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone."
3. Peter Who held onto This Covenant
Jesus said to Peter, "And on this rock I will build my church." (Matthew 16:18) Later, when Peter stood in the court of law, he said, "Do you not know that the stone that many builders rejected has become the capstone? There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4:11-12) Peter also said to declare this wonderful light, (1 Peter 2:7-9) In the end, God entrusted Peter with world evangelization.
Christianity isn't a religion. It's the Gospel. Churches mustn't lose hold of the foundation because of fighting, humanism, and self-assertions. Churches are places where people who preach the Gospel gather. That Gospel must become the foundation of your life.
[Covenantal Prayer] Dear God, may today be the precious day when the capstone is laid. May it become the time schedule to lay the foundation on the Rock. May today become the new start of my life. In Jesus Christ's name, I pray. Amen.
