Continue in What You Have Learned (2Tim 3:14~17)
1. The Characteristics of the Bible
(1) The Bible is God’s word (2Tim. 3:16).
The Bible is God’s inspired word that He gave to man, through the prophets or apostle, as our guide to faith and life.
(2) The Bible is a book of prophecy (Rev. 1:3).
Because the events of the future are accurately prophesied in the Bible, we will face calamity if we don’t know what has been written.
(3) The Bible is an eternal promise (Is. 40:8)
Because God is eternal, His promises in the Bible are true and eternal.
① The Bible is God’s given way for us (2Pet. 1:21)
② The supremacy of the Bible (1Cor. 2:13)
(4) The Bible will be fulfilled on this earth (Mt. 5:17~18)
(5) No one can alter the Bible. Anyone who tries will be cursed (Deut. 4:2, Rev. 22:18~19)
(6) The Bible leads us in the right path and firmly builds us up (Ps. 119:105, Acts 20:32)
(7) The Bible reveals God’s will to us and is the weapon that overcomes Satan’s power (Mt 4:4, 7, 10).
2. The content of the Bible
What is the theme of the Bible?
(1) It warns us of the fact that man was tempted by Satan and became a sinner ignorant of God. As the result, all mankind in destined for hell (Gen. 3:15, Eph. 2:1~3).
(2) It promises mankind salvation if they believe in the Messiah who would come down to the sinner (Gen. 3:15, Jn. 8:56)
(3) The New Testament is the evidence that the Messiah, of whom the Old Testament made over 400 references, has come (Is. 7:14, Mt. 1:21)
(4) It promises the indwelling and guidance of the Holy Spirit to those who accept Jesus in their heart (Jn. 14:16, Rom. 8:2).
3. The purpose of learning the Bible
(1) Jn. 20:31
(2) Rom. 15:4
(3) 1Cor. 10:11
4. The way to understand the Bible (Ps. 119:11)
