Why Must the Jordan River Be Crossed?

Joshua 3:1~7 Then Joshua rose early in the morning and they set out from Shittim. And they came to the Jordan, he and all the people of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over. And Joshua said to the priests, “Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on before the people.” So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people. (6)

After Moses passed away, God commanded Joshua to cross the Jordan River together with the descendants of Israel. This Word applies to you as well because it explains how to cross the Jordan River at a time when you are to cross the “Jordan” in your life. Joshua, who received God’s Word, woke up “early” in the morning and with the Israelites, lodged there “together.” According to God’s Word, he also had the priests carry the Ark of the Covenant before the people. This signifies that Joshua followed God’s Word. If that is so, what might the reason be for you to cross the Jordan River in this fashion?

1. Newly Imprint the Covenant
Newly imprinting the covenant meant that the Israelites had to firmly imprint the covenant that they had been holding onto once more. In other words, it was imprinting salvation. First, God wanted to imprint the promise of bringing the Israelites out of Egypt on the day the blood of the lamb was put on their doorposts. In addition, God imprinted the incident of the Red Sea that was split forty years before. Likewise, whenever God’s children go about doing important works, confirming how God’s Word was fulfilled in the past is crucial.

2. Experience God’s power
You must not only remember God’s power, but you must realistically experience it as well. When you do so, only then will it be rooted in you and fruits will bear depending on how deeply rooted it is. It was God’s absolute will for the Israelites to enter into the land of Canaan. Therefore, you must prepare your faith to enter into Canaan as well because at this time, you will be able to experience God’s power no matter what circumstances you face.

3. Raise a Commemorative Monument
Raising a commemorative monument means relaying the covenant to the posterity. In order to enter into Canaan, the Israelites had to make God’s Word into their nature to the point of raising a commemorative monument. In other words, the more you have your nature in this, the more your fate will change. Therefore, you too must leave behind a symbol of faith that will be forever commemorated by the next generation. This will indeed be left behind as footsteps of the accurate Gospel and faith and will also become the imprints, roots, and nature of the next generation.

[Prayer of the Evangelist] Dear God, may I experience Your power that splits the Jordan River the moment I hold to the covenant and may a commemorative monument that saves the posterity be raised.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
