The Returned Ark of the Covenant

1 Samuel 6:10~16 Now the people of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley. And when they lifted up their eyes and saw the ark, they rejoiced to see it. The cart came into the field of Joshua of Beth-shemesh and stopped there. A great stone was there. And they split up the wood of the cart and offered the cows as a burnt offering to the Lord. And the Levites took down the ark of the Lord and the box that was beside it, in which were the golden figures, and set them upon the great stone. And the men of Beth-shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices on that day to the Lord. (13~15)

The nation of Israel was joyful when the Ark of the Covenant, that had been taken away by the Philistines, returned to their possession. The figure that appeared during this time was Samuel, who possessed the Gospel. Samuel was a political leader, as well as a priest who raised both King Saul and David. David, who was trained by Samuel, saved Israel from the hands of the Philistines, and David’s son, Solomon, constructed the temple and became a world renowned king. How was Samuel, who had no background, able to receive important answers from God?

1. The True Covenant
Samuel held onto the true, genuine covenant. The Israelites built the Ark of the Covenant after they had left Egypt during the time they were in the wilderness. After they crossed the Jordan River and during the time the wall of Jericho crumbled down, they placed the Ark of the Covenant before them. Yet, they lost hold of the true essence of the Ark, which was the covenant, and believed everything would be alright as long as they physically had it in their possession. At that time, Samuel held onto the true covenant, and God granted Samuel the answer of none of his words falling to the ground.

2. True Power
Samuel was able to enjoy these answers because he believed in the true power that God bestowed. Also, not only did Joseph’s brothers sell him as a slave, he was even falsely accused and imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Even still, Joseph did not waver because he discovered God’s plan and believed in His true power. Furthermore, in an age where all newborn males were killed, Jochebed decided to send her son, Moses, to Egypt by casting him out into the Nile River because she believed in God’s true power as well. Indeed, Samuel, too, believed in God’s true power and was able to carry out the Mizpah Movement. Afterward, the Philistines were unable to invade while Samuel was alive and many came to believe in the Lord through him.

3. The True Answer
Most people consider visible answers to be true answers. However, these are not genuine answers. The greatest answer that God gives is enjoying Him being together with you(WITH). Moreover, the most fundamental answer is enjoying God who is with us(Immanuel). Lastly, God gives the answer of everything working together for the good(Oneness). Samuel was an individual who truly enjoyed these answers.

[Prayer of the Evangelist] Dear God, may I be cognizant of the true covenant, power, and answer like Samuel and become a witness who saves the church, field, and the entire world.

For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
