The Value of a Church Officer

Acts 9:10 and 15 Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias.” And he said, “Here I am, Lord.” (10)

God knows the location of a church officer who has the Gospel. That was why He sent Paul who would save the age to Ananias. You can clearly see in the Bible that God gave answers to church officers first. The church officers in the Bible knew that everything was within the Gospel(covenant) and evangelism. Then, what did the church officers of the Early Church do?

1. A Specialized Evangelism Team and Mission Specialized Team
A specialized team that did “only evangelism” was formed. That team did not think about popularity or success. All it did was “only evangelism,” healing, and the regional church movement that raised the Summit to the extent of saving the church. Afterward, people gathered at the church, and that flow was connected to missions.

2. The Formation of a Mission Specialized Team
In every crisis, the answer of a specialized team that fulfilled its mission took place(Romans 16, 1 Corinthians 16, and Colossians 4). In the age of crisis when those who believed in Jesus and evangelized were killed, church officers of the Early Church gathered in Mark’s upper room. Moreover, they not only played the role of patrons, hosts, and fellow workers of evangelists like Obadiah who staked his own life to protect prophets, but also entered the synagogues to relay the Gospel in order to raise the posterity(Acts 17:1, 18:4, and 19:8). Afterward, they naturally formed a mission specialized team to see and find the ones who remained, the scattered ones, hidden ones, sojourners, and disciples.

If a church officer receives these answers, then the church, field, and posterity will be revived. The servant of the Lord will gain strength and testify the Gospel. This is the value of a church officer.

[Covenantal Prayer] Dear God, help me to know that all answers are within the Gospel and evangelism in order to save the church, field, and posterity. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

[Deep Questions] Q. Who Was the Church Officer Who Received the Answer of Saving the Church?
(John Wanamaker, 1838~1922)

A Heart for the Church

When John was a child, he attended the First Independent Church. The church building was very old, so during inclement weather, rain would leak from the roof. The courtyard wasn’t covered with stones, so it became very muddy. The church members’ wet shoes and socks also made the floor of the sanctuary very soiled. The adult members only complained and didn’t plan any countermeasures(Nobody). Young John decided that he would cover the church courtyard with bricks. From the following day, John bought one brick each day from the seven cents he earned from his job. He woke up early in the morning, went to church, and placed one brick at a time over the courtyard(Practice). It took him nearly two years to complete the job by himself. A month later, Rev. Chambers, the head pastor, came to church early in the morning to find out who had been laying the bricks in the courtyard. When Rev. Chambers discovered that person was John, he began to pray in earnest.
“Dear God, young John is doing what the adults haven’t even thought about doing(the answer of “Nobody”). Please bless him, thirty, sixty, and one hundred times what he has sown.”
The next week, Rev. Chambers gave a sermon reflecting John’s faith and devotion. The adults were moved by the sermon and began to contemplate about their own selfish actions and lack of faith. The entire congregation gathered their strength and resources and decided to raze the old church to construct a new sanctuary. When one Remnant grabs hold of the covenant and puts it into practice, an entire congregation can experience oneness and overcome any problem. As Rev. Chambers had prayed, John Wanamaker received the answer of the Holy Mason who raised many churches and founded the YMCA.
